Heat strips

If you have an electric heat pump, during the course of your fall preventative maintenance
you may have overheard the technician say that he tested the “heat strips” and wondered what they were talking about?
“Electric heat strips”, “auxiliary heat strips”, or just “heat strips” for short, are a supplemental or secondary heat source that is installed inside the air handler to help a heat pump’s heating output when the outdoor temperature gets really low. When an air conditioner is running in A/C mode, it is taking heat from inside the house, where we don’t want it, and moving it outside where we don’t care about it. This is how the air conditioner cools us, by transferring heat or heat transfer.

We provide heating and cooling services for Oxford Area. If an A/C system is not properly charged with refrigerant, it is unable to efficiently remove heat and cool your home or an apartment. The outside unit is not working. The condenser fan located outside your home removes heat from the compressor and keeps refrigerant cool. The condenser fan can stop working due to a faulty capacitor, a bad motor bearing can cause it to overheat, or there may not be power to the system. Insufficiently cooled rooms in the house, office or apartment. This can be due to poor duct design, kinked or damaged air ducts, or an air duct leak. The A/C unit is not blowing cold air. This can be can be a result of various issues, including the following: Lack of power to the system; not functioning correctly thermostat batteries; A low system charge; Dirty air filters (Note: Dirty air filters can cause many system malfunctions. Air filters should be changed every month.)We also offer air filter replacement services.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Star program, leaky ducts in attics or crawl spaces can account for 20 percent or more of a home’s heating and cooling energy losses. This results in higher utility bills for you and difficulty keeping your house comfortable.

A few signs you may have leaky ducts are if you have:

High utility bills in summer and winter.
    Difficult-to-heat-and-cool rooms.
Stuffy rooms that never seem to feel comfortable.
    Attic, crawlspace, or garage ducts.
Tangled or kinked flexible ducts in your system.
